Job Summary:

The Trade Operations Analyst is responsible for the contract execution for transportation of certain bulk products including grain, grain by products in support of traders and merchandisers. This responsibility includes some or all of the following: tracking of barge positions and distribution of a daily position report, review of contracts and charterparties, nominations to suppliers and buyers, tracking daily positions of vessels and loading and discharging schedules, payment to suppliers, collections from buyers either directly or via banking channels or via other agreements, calculations of laytime, requesting wire transfers, confirming miscellaneous vessel and contract related invoices, communications with many parties related to a specific vessel, follow-up on all matters, and preparation of standard and ad hoc reports including U.S. export report and A/R and received wires.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish and maintain purchase and sale contracts
  • Establish and maintain shipment files
  • Communicate with Contract Principals, Vessel Lines, Surveyors, Vessel Agents, Banks and other entities involved with specific shipments
  • Prepare, receive and review shipping documentation
  • Identify issues that are hindering the delivery process
  • Prepare payment requests for wire transfer
  • Generate various reports, including A/R, receipt of wires, barge tracking, and U.S. export report
  • Establish and maintain a positive and effective relationship with the business managers to create a strong business partnership.
  • Fully understand all aspects of invoicing
  • Provide excellent customer service by fostering positive relationships and strong follow-up with customer issues, both internal and external.
  • Create and maintain a team environment for all supported businesses.
  • Provide various information, as needed, to the business managers, and corresponding management team, to effectively analyze the results of operations.
  • Proactively investigate productivity opportunities and follow through to resolution, communicating successes to business managers, management and peers.
  • Work proactively to ensure all policies are followed.
  • Learn and effectively utilize all applicable operational systems.

  •  Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
    • Experience in agricultural commodity industry, including knowledge of terms and standards required.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Must be able to work proficiently with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Business degree preferred or 5+ years of related experience.
  •  Special Demands:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time
  • Position requires operation of a computer and other standard office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator, computer printer and phone up to 90% of the time
  • Frequently communicates with employees in the office and customers in international locations
