Job Description

Position Summary

The position will lead, direct, and provide support in all safety & health programs processes and regulations for Gavilon. Working with the Gavilon Operations, Safety Health and Environmental team, the role will also provide guidance and leadership direction in all   related matters to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with all Gavilon, LLC, federal and state safety guidelines and procedures. Additionally, this position will ensure that all Gavilon employees follow and support all health and safety efforts and are given proper tools and guidance to produce desired results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading and directing all Gavilon Safety, Environmental and Health policies, procedures, and practices

  • Responsible for the implementation and management of all health and safety initiatives.  Establish and implement these policies and initiate activities across all Fertilizer facilities.

  • Monitor, manage and report all existing safety performance measures and develop strategic plans to enhance performance across all Gavilon facilities.

  • Maintain and build upon common and consistent Gavilon reporting mechanisms for injuries, workers compensation, and serious injuries, etc.

  • Conduct employee training in current /safety topics for all Gavilon employees.

  • Work directly with Gavilon Operations, Safety and Environmental group to assess and monitor OSHA/EPA compliance across all facility operations.

  • Review proposed/new regulations for content and develop new or incorporate into existing safety, and health policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Responsible for the accurate and standardize reporting of safety statistics.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with federal, state, and local environmental agencies (EPA, DNR, Water Pollution Commission, etc.) to ensure compliance with all established and new regulations.

  • Champion Safety Improvement Processes, programs, and results through site visits, performing safety evaluations, Compliance Audits, Process Hazard Analysis,

Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • Minimum of B.S. Safety, Environmental or Engineering or related field; should include course work in safety management, safety and environmental regulations, workers’ compensation, etc.
  • 5-7 years progressive safety and health supervisory experience. Fertilizer facility experience or export/import port facility experience is a plus.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical/comprehensive approach to problems.
  • Self-starter with proven track record of delivering on results.
  • Willingness to work multiple shifts
  • Strong quantitative, analytical skills and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
